Najla Jean Ann Besharah (Langevin) passed away at the age of 98 at the Grace Village Residence in the Eastern Townships on Sunday, June 20th, 2021. She was the mother of 8 children, Mary Ellen, Paul, Michael, Patricia, Gerard, Lawrence, David and Helen and Sity to Michelle, Julien, Danielle and Gabriel Duguay, Isabelle, Philippe, Jeremy and Martine Ménard, Currie, Dane, Alexander and Emily Langevin and Cassandra and Erik Chevrier-Langevin. She was also Great Grandmother to Tristan and Gabriel Ouimet, Noémy and Amily Duguay, Caleb, Olivier and Raphael Taylor, Wylan and Naomy Ménard, Nathaniel, Emmaelle, Sophilia and Nohlan Ménard and Stella, Samuel and Tessa Carrier.
The third of 8 children of Lebanese immigrants Baraket Makoul Besharah and Saidie Anbar from the town of Kfarmechki, Lebanon. Najla (Jean) was born in Marengo Saskatchewan and grew up in Ottawa where she passionately played competitive softball, which took her to Montreal where she became a hairdresser. Through mutual friends, Najla met her soon-to-be husband Joseph Edward Langevin and moved to Sherbrooke in the Eastern Townships of Québec and had 8 children.
Najla (Jean) loved the Eastern Townships, often referring to it as the most beautiful place on earth. She had a passion for growing things, food, plants, and trees and watching them bear flowers and fruit for all to enjoy. She loved watching the birds and other wild creatures make their homes in her trees and garden. Most of all, she loved to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a pillar of strength, confidence and courage. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Elle était également l'arrière-grand-mère de Tristan et Gabriel Ouimet, Noémy et Amily Duguay, Caleb, Olivier et Raphael Taylor, Wylan et Naomy Ménard, Nathaniel, Emmaelle, Sophilia et Nohlan Ménard et Stella, Samuel et Tessa Carrier.
Troisième d'une famille de 8 enfants, elle était la fille de Baraket Makoul Besharah et Saidie Anbar, originaires du village de Kfarmechki, au Liban. Najla (Jean) est née à Marengo, en Saskatchewan et elle a grandi à Ottawa où elle était une athlète douée de softball qui participait à des compétitions provinciales. Elle a été recrutée par l'équipe de Montréal où elle est devenue coiffeuse. Grâce à des amis communs, Najla a rencontré son futur mari, Joseph Edward Langevin et a déménagé à Sherbrooke, dans les Cantons de l'Est du Québec, où elle a eu 8 enfants.
Najla (Jean) adorait les Cantons de l'Est, qu'elle qualifiait souvent du plus bel endroit sur terre. Elle était une jardinière passionnée qui aimait voir les plantes fleurir et porter des fruits pour le plaisir de tous. Elle aimait regarder les oiseaux et les autres créatures sauvages s'installer dans ses arbres et son jardin. Par-dessus tout, elle aimait être entourée de ses enfants, de ses petits-enfants et de ses arrière-petits-enfants. Elle était un pilier de force, de confiance et de courage. Nous l'avons beaucoup aimée et elle nous manquera profondément.
Je vous offre mes plus sincères condoléances en ce moment de deuil de la maman si précieuse qui vous a quitté. Bon courage et rappelez-vous les moments de bonheur que vous avez vécu ensemble ça réchauffera votre cœur endolori.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your mother. Even when our parents endure until their 90’s, it is still very hard to see them go. I hope the great memories you have of her will comfort you in your bereavement. Please know that I think you were the best son ever, having retired early in order to return to Sherbrooke and care for her. I am sure it was a huge comfort to her knowing you were there each day. Please accept a big cyber hug and kiss from me. xxo

One thing I remember about your mother. When she was volunteering at the Argyll Pavillon. She would pass my office, then backup when she saw me alone and sit on a chair and asked me "so what's new"?. I would tell her I did not have my daily coffee yet. She would say "what's stopping you"? She was to the point. The next time I had my coffee and showed it to her and she asked "where's mine"? This went on for about a year.
She seemed to enjoy it. Just a small memory I wanted to share.
