BRIAN BIRD, John

Passed away suddenly on August 20th 2011, at Fitch Bay, one week before his 88th birthday. Predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Beryl Bird (nee Briggs). He will be missed by his children Joanne, Neil (Ursula) and Colin (Laurie-Ann) and his grandchildren, Rachel and Esmé. Brian was born on August 28th 1923. He served as a Royal Marine from 1942 to 1945 where he was released with the rank of Captain. Brian and Beryl Briggs were married in Washington D.C. on December 31st 1949 and shortly thereafter moved to Toronto. In 1950, they moved to Montreal where Brian held a position in the Department of Geography, McGill University. Brian was chairman of the department from 1966 to 1974 and retired in 1988. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
