HADDON, Ronald

1941 - 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Haddon at the age of 80. He was the son of the late Charlotte Ross and the late Harry Haddon.

Ron was the beloved father of Sarah (Matthew), dear brother of the late Beverley, and Uncle Ronnie to Chris and Kerry. He will be greatly missed by friends, neighbours, former colleagues and students, his many cousins and extended family.

Born and raised in Lennoxville, in his early years, Ron worked in the printing industry. He then taught photolith (and later other subjects) until his retirement from Alexander Galt. With partners, he also ran a printshop. It was rare for him not to run into someone he knew when out in town and to stop for a chat.

Kind, gentle, patient and generous, Ron never hesitated to offer help and was the first to lend a hand when needed. He was a classic car enthusiast, had a soft spot for animals and an incurable sweet tooth, and loved a good joke. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Grace Village for the care and kindness shown to Ron, as well as the medical personnel at CHUS-Hôtel Dieu. In particular, Sarah would like to thank Jean Boluk for her many years of friendship and support to Ron.

A memorial service will be held in Lennoxville later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.

Family

I had Mr. Haddon as a teacher at galt. He had a profound impact on me, in that no matter what I or other rascals would do or say (sometimes not nice things), he was smart as a whip and would quip something kind and gentle back at us always with a smile on his face.

A man of character. And that smile haha. Thank you for sharing him with us. My deepest sympathies and condolences.

Thanks Mr. Haddon.

Sarah and family,

I have fond memories of ‘Ronny’ I was in my second year of photolith when he started at Galt. My favourite memory is of his noontime trips to Home Ec to make oatmeal cookies which he brought back to class to share! Because of teachers like him I became a printer and have been all my life, retiring in July. During my career I returned to Galt to teach with Ron, it was a great year. My sincere condolences to you all, I will remember him fondly.

I have some great memories from my youth of he and I competing for Grammie and Pop’s attention. Being the only grandson and thus by default the like the favourite Grandson lol, it was a tough road for us both. However through it all we always looked forward to our visits as we grew older. One of my favourite stops was visiting him at 62 academy st were life stood still with decor trinket placement affirming fond memories of my youth with my grand parents. My heart was filled on my visits with him at the house.

Sarah,
My deepest sympathy to you at this time of thr passing of your Dad. I have known Ron since I married Mac in 1958. I have many fond memories of Ron both of when w lived at he farm and then in 1995 when we moved to Academy Street to be his neighbor.
My son Ted took printing with hi when he went back to school father he graduated and Ted today is still in the printing business in sales.
Ron was a friend to all. My last memories of him was trying to help him stand when he fell in the snow. I wasn’t much help but two neighbors joined me and we got him up.
May GOD comfort you and give you peace. With love Janet Sparkes

We were so sorry to learn that Ronnie died recently. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend for all the years we lived in Lennoxville. After he retired, and when the weather was good, he would often be outside in his front yard, or sitting in his garage. As I walked home at the end of the day, up Academy Street from Bishop's University, and passed his house we would usually have a brief and pleasant chat. Ronnie also kindly loaned us his vintage car so our daughter could be driven in style to her wedding at the BU Chapel. In 2011 after 38 years of living in Lennoxville we decided to move to Ontario to be closer to our daughters and their families. When I told Ronnie we were moving, he got very emotional and started to cry. I was very touched that he thought so much of us as friends and neighbors that he was distressed to learn we were going to move away. As luck would have it, one of Ronnie's cousins lives near us in Ontario so we often reminisce with him about Ronnie and are reminded about what a wonderful, kind, friendly and warm person he was.

Your father was a wonderful man and a really good friend of my mum and his other colleagues. He helped me with a lot of projects when I was at Galt. He was that type of guy: always doing extra stuff to help out. I was sorry to hear that he had deteriorated more recently. Also, even I knew how proud he was of you despite being just the daughter of one of his work friends. I hope that you find solace surrounded by your family.

Sarah and family

Hello Sarah, My name is Judith Yonan. I worked at Grace until the end of last year and cared for your father. I wanted to express my sadness at his passing. All the things mentioned about his personality indeed were so true. In spite of the many battles he faced with his health, he did his very best to be cheerful, show appreciation for any help he received, he smiled always and was just a kind and dear man who I always felt was my friend. He laughed a lot too and seemed to look on the brighter side of things. I am so sorry for your loss and I pray that as the days pass, you will feel his presence and assurance.
To my friend Ron, I say, thank you for all you taught me in my work. Until Then.

Sincerely, Judith Yonan
